How to get your real estate license

STEP ONE – Take the 63 hour pre-licensing real estate course.

I have listed some great schools below where you can take the course. There are many real estate course available on each of the school websites, but you are looking for 3 things when searching for the correct course:

1. It must be the 63 hour pre-licensing course
This course goes by a few different names, such as:

– 63 Hour Sales Associate Pre-Licensing Course
– 63 Hour Real Estate Pre-Licensing Course

2. It must say Florida
Each state has it’s own rules for selling real estate.

3. The course must be recognized by FREC
FREC is the Florida Real Estate Commission. The course you choose must be recognized by FREC or your license won’t be approved.

In summary, the course you are looking for must be a 63 hour pre-licensing course, for Florida and recognized by FREC.

STEP TWO – Take the State Exam

After passing your 63 hour course, the school you studied with sends your certificate to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).

After DBPR receives your certifcate you are qualified to take the State Real Estate Exam. Each school has it’s own instructions on how to attend the exam and the course you take will let you know what to do.

Online or Classroom?

Online
Choosing to study online allows you to study at your own pace. You have access to a teacher via email, but there are no tips from the teacher on how to pass the course. It is a less expensive option than participating in an in person class.

Classroom
Studying in person in a classroom environment can be much quicker, the teacher gives you tips on how to pass the course and you get to meet other students, but it is a more expensive option. Classroom courses usually take around a week to complete.
